Thank you again to our newsletter editor Nel Ward who keeps us up to date with national, international and our local LGBTQ news.
Our June 14 meeting will honor Queer Hero Ineka Estabrook, our fearless chapter chairperson, who is leaving for adventures in Europe.  After the meeting we’ll adjourn to La Roca for social hour and adult beverages.  The meeting is at 6 pm at St. Stephen’s Church in Newport.
This weekend is the FIRST Yachats Pride Celebration.  See the schedule of exciting events on page 4.

It’s a busy month, so add these dates to your calendar:

Wed., Feb. 4 at 9:30 am Upstander Week Proclamation at the Commission Chamber at the Courthouse.  Please come to be an Upstander with PFLAG and students from Newport schools.

Sun., Feb. 8 from 2-4 pm is our Annual Love is Love Valentine Party.  See more info in the newsletter and on our Facebook group.

Sun. & Mon. Feb. 8 & 9 at the PAC in Newport is PRIDE, the film about a LGBT group in London who raise money to support Welsh miners in the early 1980’s.  The resulting culture clash and reconciliations are deeply touching.  A MUST-SEE film!

Tues., Feb. 10 from 4-6 pm at Georgie’s is a monthly Happy Hour for LGBTQ folks and our allies.  This is a fun gathering–join us!

Wed., Feb. 11 from 6-7:30 pm is our monthly PFLAG meeting at St. Stephen’s Church at SW 9th & Hurbert in Newport.  We’ll watch the last half of the Alan Turing documentary.

Sat., Feb 14 from 5-7 pm is a special Out on the OR Coast Happy Hour at the Embarcadero.

Wed.  Sept. 11:   PFLAG Newport meeting at 7 pm at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. We will be showing and discussing the film, Holding Families Together

Sat.  Sept. 14 :  PFLAG and the welcoming congregations will host their monthly table at the Newport’s Saturday Market–stop by to cheer us on!

Sun.  Sept. 15:  “Coming Out as a Person of Faith II” at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Waldport from 2-4 pm.  It will be a continuation and deepening of the discussion of the topics discussed at the Coming Out as a Person of Faith presentation in August at three congregations in Lincoln County.                          Video and Followup Discussion — Begin or continue the discussion from August.

Mon. Sept. 16:  National Organization for Women (NOW) Meeting at 7 pm at the People’s Utility District (PUD) 2129 North Coast Highway in Newport.  The public is welcome to attend the meeting.   Oregon Central Coast PFLAG & a LGBT panel will present LGBT 101,

Big thanks to Nel Ward who does a great job with our newsletter.

Please join us on Thursday, July 4 in Yachats when PFLAG will be a rainbow presence in the LaDeDa Parade.  We’ll gather about 11 AM in the covered shelter behind Yachats Commons to make signs and share our rainbow gear!  The parade starts at noon and there are lots of activities and food events to enjoy in Yachats  all afternoon.

On Wed., July 10 our PFLAG meeting at 7 PM at St. Stephen’s Church in Newport will focus on Welcoming Churches–and how they came to be Welcoming!  Always time for support, socializing, and refreshments as well.

Saturday, July 13 is our turn at Saturday Market in Newport–stop by to visit and thank the PFLAG and Welcoming Church volunteers!

Saturday, July 20 is the statewide kickoff for Oregon’s Marriage Equality
ballot measure signature gathering.  Watch for an email with more info on
how we will organize to gather LOTS of signatures in Lincoln County.

Monday, April 8 NOW forum on Bullying. Local NOW Addresses Youth Issues “The Effects of Bullying, Sexual Harassment, & Dating Violence” is the topic of the panel discussion at the April 8 NOW (National Organization for Women) meeting at 7:00 pm at Central Lincoln PUD in Newport. PFLAG members Jordan Ostrum and Jeanne St.John are panel members who will discuss these hostile experiences in local schools.
Wednesday, April 10     PFLAG Meeting at 7 PM at St. Stephen’s Church with program on LGBT Families with kids.  PFLAG Secretary Deb Lyman will host and introduce the program and speakers.

Article on OCC-PFLAG in UU publication Interweave.   The Oregon Central Coast chapter of PFLAG was discussed in depth in a three page article beginning on page seven of the December Issue of Interweave, a Unitarian Universalist publication concerning LGBT issues and welcoming congregations. December 4, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.  Basic Rights Oregon is traveling to communities across Oregon to celebrate recent victories for marriage equality and engage communities in a plan to win the freedom to marry in Oregon! The Marriage Equality Tour will stop in Lincoln County on Tuesday, December 4, 6:008:00pm, St. Stephen’s, SW 9th & Hurbert.
